Guitarist

Ecuadorian-born American guitarist Anton Machleder has performed throughout the US in solo recitals and chamber music concerts. Currently he is Assistant Professor of Guitar at the Greatbatch School of Music, Houghton University; he has also taught at Alfred University and Finger Lakes Community College, and directs Red Creek Recording Studios in Rochester, New York. A former student of Ronald Purcell and Manuel Barrueco, he completed the DMA in guitar and music literature under the direction of Nicholas Goluses at the Eastman School of Music. He made his New York debut in 1992 at Carnegie Hall’s Weill Recital Hall as winner of the Artists International Competition. He has received fellowships from D’Addario Strings, the Bowdoin Festival in Maine, and Yale’s Norfolk Summer Festival. Guitar Player Magazine reviewed his CD as having “Crisp, brilliant upper-register work, sumo-weight bass tones, masterful long line logic …. dramatic sense of structure … remarkable dynamic control.” His performances are available on the La Tapa Recordings label (www.redcreekstudios.com).
