Christina Penney
Engineer.
Hailing from St. John’s, Newfoundland, Canada, flamenco dancer Christina Penney Harris was first introduced to the world of concert castanets when she was invited to accompany a guitar quartet in a performance of Boccherini’s Fandango in 2016. In preparation for this show, she was fortunate to be coached by esteemed Canadian flamenco artist Carmen Romero.
The pandemic presented further opportunities for virtual studies, and in 2020, Christina began studying castanets for Spanish dance and concert with renowned Canadian flamenco artist Esmeralda Enrique.
In 2021, Christina enrolled in maestra Teresa Laiz’s Online Castanet school, and is proud to be in the third year of the intensive program, working towards a teaching and professional performance certification.
She is also a member of Madrid Castanet Choir, directed by Teresa Laiz.
