Guitarist
Sonya is fourteen years old and will be in the 9th grade this fall. She has been playing the classical guitar for nine years with Jeremy Collins and Jim McCutcheon. In 2019 she placed first at the Boston Guitarfest competition in youth junior division, and she placed second in the Ohio Jr. Music Federation all state (Ohio) and all instruments competition. She placed first at the Indiana International Guitar Competition in 2022, 2nd at the 2022 Southern Guitar Competition, and 1st at the 2023 Appalachian State Guitar Competition in the youth junior divisions. She has opened for the Beijing Guitar Duo at the Cincinnati Guitar Society as a soloist and as a duo with her duet partner. She has enjoyed playing multiple times at the Cincinnati Nature Center. She has performed in masterclasses with Martha Masters, Thomas Viloteau, and Mak Grgic. In 2020, 2022, and 2023 she was a competitor in the Guitar Foundation of America international youth junior division competition.
